9 BIG BROTHER terms

This glossary lists all the terms I did not understand but also the important words of this part studied

BIG BROTHER

A person or an organization who exercising total control over people's lives.

Example: We forestalled the onset of a governmental Big Brother by meekly accepting surveillance

CCTV

An abbreviation for closed-circuit television : a system that sends television signals to a limited number of screens, and is often used in shops and public places to prevent crime.

Example: We have several CCTV cameras in the neighbourhood

Eavesdrop

Listen secretely a conversation

Example: My father eavesdropped on my phone calls

fr: Ecouter de façon indiscrète

Hooliganism

It was violent or rowdy behavior by young troublemakers, typically in a gang.

Example: And alongside all this drinking and drugs was a kind of hooliganism

Meekly

Said somthing in a humbly patient or quiet manner:

Example: When addressing a lawyer during oral arguments, the judge often starts meekly with, "Counsel, may I interrupt?"

Sniffer

It is the dog who are used by the police to track criminals

Example: Experts say that sniffer dog evidence should not be used in the criminal justice system

Thwart

It's to prevent someone from accomplish something

Example: He managed to thwart the robbery plans

Trouble spot

It's a place where we have some difficulties regularly occur, or where there is a continuous cycle of violence

Example: The voice surveillance operating in trouble spot in town center

fr: Point de conflit, point chaud dans une ville

Wisely

In a way that shows experience, knowledge, and good judgment.

Example: She is going to choose and incorporate sources wisely.
